Rabbi Elliot Cosgrove Named ADL Rabbinical Advisor on Interfaith Affairs

New York, NY, January 18, 2012 … Rabbi Elliot J. Cosgrove, the Senior Rabbi at Park Avenue Synagogue in New York City and a rising and respected rabbinical leader, has been tapped by the Anti-Defamation League (ADL) to serve as its Rabbinical Advisor on Interfaith Affairs and Co-Chair of ADL's National Outreach and Interfaith Committee.

In these newly created leadership roles, in addition to his ongoing role as a congregational leader, Rabbi Cosgrove will work to enhance and strengthen ADL's interfaith program to develop constructive relations among Jews, Catholics, Eastern Orthodox, Protestants, Muslims, Mormons and other religions.

"We are extremely pleased that Rabbi Cosgrove has agreed to join our efforts to help advance relations between the Jewish people and other faiths around the world," said Abraham H. Foxman, ADL National Director. "Rabbi Cosgrove has a passion for the intersection of Jewish scholarship, history and faith, and has shown a tremendous intellectual dedication and commitment to reaching out across religious lines to promote interfaith understanding. We look forward to working with him as we explore new avenues of outreach to other faiths in New York City, America and abroad."

Rabbi Cosgrove was among the charter members of the ADL Interfaith Coalition on Mosques, established in September 2010. He participated in ADL's first-ever conference on Eastern Catholics, Judaism and Israel in March 2011, and recently engaged in conversation with New York Archbishop Timothy M. Dolan at a public session on Catholic-Jewish relations during the League's annual meeting in November.

Rabbi Cosgrove was ordained at the Jewish Theological Seminary in 1999 and earned his Ph.D. from the University of Chicago Divinity School. He is author of "Go Forth!," "In the Beginning" and "An Everlasting Covenant" and the editor of "Jewish Theology in Our Time: A New Generation Explores the Foundations and Future of Jewish Belief."

In this newly created leadership role, Rabbi Cosgrove will work closely with Martin L. Budd, Chairman of ADL's National Outreach and Interfaith Committee and Rabbi Eric J. Greenberg, ADL's Director of Interfaith Affairs.

The Anti-Defamation League, founded in 1913, is the world's leading organization fighting anti-Semitism through programs and services that counteract hatred, prejudice and bigotry.
