  • After months of planning, police in France, Belgium, Germany, Italy and Switzerland led a coordinated series of raids on suspected Islamic militants supporting Algeria's GIA. Seventy-eight people were detained, including three Algerians who worked for senior GIA leader Hassan Hattab and whose task was to organize support networks in Europe for terror operations.
