  • The United States is training Sri Lankan policemen in advanced anti-terrorist procedures to help them defend civilians and civilian installations from Tamil Tiger attacks. (Reuters, 8/7/98)

  • The FBI shared its findings of an investigation into the 1994 bombing of a Buenos Aires Jewish center with Argentina and told officials there it believed Iranian Embassy officials were involved in the blast that killed 86 people. (The New York Times, 8/8/98)

  • Bulgaria extradited to Egypt an Islamic militant, Essam Abdel-Tawab Abdel-Alim, on the run from a 25-year jail term in a case involving the killing of an alleged Jihad leader. (Reuters, 8/25/98)

  • France apprehended Hans-Joachim Klein, 51, a German fugitive and "Carlos the Jackal" accomplice wanted by both Germany and Austria for his involvement in the 1975 attack on OPEC headquarters in Vienna in which three people were killed. (Reuters, 9/9/98)

  • Paraguay extradited to the United States a man traveling on the passport of a Lebanese national whom Washington suspects of terrorist links. (Reuters, 9/19/98)
