ADL National Executive Committee Passes Resolutions on Immigration, Information Sharing
Immigration and The Role of Local Law Enforcement
Whereas, ADL has strongly supported the actions of the President of the United States and of the Administration to apprehend, try, and punish those responsible for the September 11, 2001 terrorist attacks, and to prevent future attacks on the United States and its citizens; and

Whereas, ADL recognizes that these efforts to combat terrorism have required a recalibration between our security and civil liberties interests;

Whereas, the "Total Information Awareness" project proposed by the Administration would result in the collection, storage, analysis and dissemination of unprecedented amounts of information on American citizens without guidelines, regulations and judicial oversight to appropriately limit the nature or amount of such information collection and the use to which such information can be put, and

Whereas, the "Total Information Awareness" project, if implemented, would be an unprecedented invasion of the right of privacy of American citizens.

Now therefore be it resolved that ADL strongly opposes the "Total Information Awareness" project.

Adopted by the National Executive Committee February 8, 2003
