A Leader's Contribution

To the Editor:

I was appalled to read William Safire's comment calling for the resignation of Abraham H. Foxman, national director of the Anti-Defamation League (column, March 26).

Mr. Foxman, who has acknowledged that he made a mistake in writing a letter of support for the pardon of Marc Rich, is not only one of the most outstanding leaders of the Jewish community, but also one who has made enormous contributions to making America a better place for all Americans.

We are proud and fortunate to have Mr. Foxman, a person of great courage and principle, as our national director. He has the full support of the Anti-Defamation League's leadership.

GLEN A. TOBIAS
National Chairman
Anti-Defamation League
New York, March 26, 2001
