ENTRY DATES: November 3rd, 2008 - February 26th, 2009:
ALL ENTRIES MUST BE POSTMARKED NO LATER THAN FEBRUARY 26TH, 2009!
(Results announced by April 15th, 2009)
- Participants must be in grades nine (9) through twelve (12) during the contest period. Students can participate if they are attending a public, home, private or parochial high school.
- Only one entry per student will be accepted.
- Students who have submitted an essay to this contest in previous years must write an entirely new essay to be considered for a prize in this year’s contest.
- Minimum/Maximum length 750-1,000 words (please count words and enter number on Application Form).
The word count does not include works cited/bibliography or parenthetical citations. Please, cite your sources in your paper.
- A title is required.
- 8 1/2 x 11 inch white paper; one side only; typed, double-spaced, page numbered, and stapled.
- Citations from at least two sources (only one from the internet) will be required to qualify for a prize.
- No more than five sources are recommended for the essay contest.
- Neither the student’s name or school should appear on the essay (for judging purposes.)
- Sources must be cited in a bibliography.
- Submit:

- Application Sheet
- Reflection Sheet
- Essay (copy 1)
- Essay (copy 2)
Staple 1-3 together
Then, clip all of the information, 1-4, together and send it to

Entry Disqualifiers
- Incomplete entry form
- Essay does not meet the minimum/maximum word requirement.
- No bibliography.
- Both sources in bibliography are Internet cites (maximum – one)
- Using Wikipedia as a source
- No Reflection sheet
- Multiple entries per student
- Plagiarism
