On the 12th anniversary of the September 11 terrorist attacks last week, a Saudi newspaper published an editorial describing the operation as part of a “Jewish plan to destroy the world.”
The article, published in Al-Riyadh and titled “A calm discussion of September 11,” suggests the attack “was employed for the best interest of Israel to terminate the Palestinian case and to impose the idea of the Jewish state.”
The article was written by Rakan Al Majali, former Minister of State for Media Affairs and Communications in Jordan, for Al-Riyadh, a popular Saudi daily newspaper.
Suggesting that the U.S. government is controlled by a Zionist lobby, the article further asserts, “The gang of the Zionist right wing conservatives which control American decisions used this incident to achieve its ambition in using the American military power to control the world starting with our region.”
Al Majali, who views 9/11 to be the reason behind all the current conflicts in the Middle East, concludes:
In summary, the terrorist crime on September 11 was... a result of the planning and execution of the shrewdest ones of the right-wing conservatives headed by [Dick] Cheney and [Donald] Rumsfeld. They were backed by a hateful racist Zionist malice which found an opportunity to attack our [Arab] nation… to mark a beginning of the Jewish plan to destroy the world.
In the 12 years since the September 11 terrorist attacks, conspiracy theories surrounding the attacks have become an entrenched propaganda industry. This article demonstrates the continuing evolution of these conspiratorial narratives in a country where 15 of the hijackers came from.
