Disinformation: Rumor about Black Lives Matter activists distributing an antisemitic flier

debunk

Overview: There is no indication that any Black Lives Matter activists have shared, printed or distributed these fliers.

Description: As previously reported by ADL, in the midst of ongoing protests against police brutality and systemic racism, an internet rumor has tied Black Lives Matter to a flier which reads, “Ending white privilege…intersects [sic] ending Jewish privilege,” and claims that Jewish Americans receive special privileges at leading universities. It also includes the hashtags #BlackLivesMatter, #WeAreAllMuslim, and #WhitePrivilege. The claim that Jews can manipulate institutions, including universities, to benefit themselves at the expense of non-Jews, is a classic antisemitic trope.

Images of this flier have circulated online since at least as early as March 2017, when a news report stated that unknown perpetrators had distributed the flier at the University of Illinois at Chicago. At the time, a representative of Black Lives Matter condemned the flier, as well as several additional fliers bearing antisemitic messages and the #BlackLivesMatter hashtag. In the context of the recent protests and the resurgence of Black Lives Matter, at least one white supremacist channel on Telegram shared the flier with the instructions to “spread this on Twitter using the hashtags #BLM #BlackLivesMatter.”
