Eli Valley's Bigoted "Birthright" Comic Strip in The New Republic

Letters to the Editor
The New Republic

To the Editor:

It is sad to see The New Republic’s long tradition of responsible journalism transformed into a bigoted, unfunny representation in Eli Valley’s comic strip “Birthright.”

One has to wonder whether the magazine would have published a cartoon that stereotyped other groups the way this one stereotyped Jews and evangelical Christians.

Depicting these groups as blood-sucking monsters says more about the character of the author than about the targeted groups.

That The New Republic chose to publish such drivel brings shame to an institution that has brought great honor to journalism in America for decades.

Sincerely,
