Volkswagen Parts Ways with the Historian who Chronicled its Nazi Past

Letters to the Editor
The New York Times

To the Editor:

Re “Volkswagen Parts Ways with the Historian who Chronicled its Nazi Past,” (Nov. 2):

The Anti-Defamation League has found Volkswagen to be a reliable partner in addressing its World War II history and in promoting Holocaust education in general. The Volkswagen described by the Times is not the Volkswagen we have come to know and respect.

Grieger because of the contents of his 2014 article. Yet there is no mention of this in the Times report.  Even the protest letter by Mr. Grieger’s colleagues notes that he left the company voluntarily.

Of course, covering the emissions story at Volkswagen is legitimate and important. Linking it, however, to the employment issue of the historian is tendentious and misleading about Volkswagen’s admirable and groundbreaking record in admissions about its World War II history.

Sincerely,

Jonathan A. Greenblatt
