ADL Calls Queens Firebombing Attacks Targeting Mosque and Hindu Temple 'Shocking' and a Potential Hate Crime

New York, NY, January 3, 2012 … The Anti-Defamation League (ADL) condemned the firebombing of a mosque and a Hindu temple in Queens, New York, calling it a "shocking and despicable" act of intimidation and hatred.

On the night of January 1, Molotov cocktails were hurled at five locations in Queens and Nassau County, including the Imam Al-Khoei Islamic Center in Jamaica, Queens, and a private home where Hindu services are held. Other targets included a bodega and two private homes.

We are outraged by these shocking and despicable acts directed at houses of worship," said Ron Meier, ADL New York Regional Director. "These heinous crimes are unacceptable and cannot be tolerated. We are working closely with the NYPD, and are confident that they will fully investigate this case as a possible hate crime and bring the perpetrators to justice."

ADL will be participating this morning in a press conference in Jamaica, Queens in a show of solidarity with over 30 religious and community leaders in front of the targeted Islamic Center.
