ADL Praises Canadian Prime Minister Stephen Harper for Setting a “Standard of Moral Leadership”

New York, NY, July 15, 2014 … The Anti-Defamation League (ADL) today praised Canadian Prime Minister Stephen Harper for expressing his strong support for the State of Israel during the current conflict with the Gaza based terror group Hamas.

“Your statement in which you condemn Hamas’ indiscriminate rocket attacks on Israeli civilians and make clear that ‘Canada is unequivocally behind Israel,’ once again sets a standard of moral leadership for the international community,” said Abraham H. Foxman, ADL National Director, in a letter to Prime Minister Harper.  “At this time of crisis, Israel and its supporters are fortunate to have you by their side.”

ADL also commended Prime Minster Harper for his call to Israel’s allies and partners “to recognize that these terrorist acts are unacceptable.”

“Israel is under attack by a ruthless violent and vehemently anti-Semitic terrorist organization, and when we hear strong words of support – like those from Prime Minster Harper – calling on the international community to stand in solidarity with Israel, we know that Canada is a true friend,” Mr. Foxman said.

ADL is the world’s leading anti-hate organization. Founded in 1913 in response to an escalating climate of anti-Semitism and bigotry, its timeless mission is to protect the Jewish people and to secure justice and fair treatment for all. Today, ADL continues to fight all forms of hate with the same vigor and passion. A global leader in exposing extremism, delivering anti-bias education, and fighting hate online, ADL is the first call when acts of anti-Semitism occur. ADL’s ultimate goal is a world in which no group or individual suffers from bias, discrimination or hate.
