ADL Statement On Muslim Brotherhood Victory In Egyptian Presidential Election

New York, NY, June 25, 2012 … The Anti-Defamation League (ADL) today issued the following statement following the announcement that Mohamed Morsi of the Muslim Brotherhood was declared the winner of Egypt's presidential elections:

Mohamed Morsi's victory in the presidential run-off election is another step in the complicated and delicate process of building Egyptian democracy. We extend our congratulations to Mr. Morsi and hope he will ensure Egypt's economic and political viability.

We hope that the new Egyptian leader will take immediate and meaningful steps to fulfill his commitment to guaranteeing the democratic ideals of respect for and protection of all segments of Egyptian society, and to maintaining Egypt's political and strategic relations with Israel, including the historic treaty between the two countries.
