ADL to International Community: Condemn Hamas’ “Flagrant and Ruthless Violation” of Ceasefire & Kidnap of IDF Soldier

New York, NY, August 1, 2014 … The Anti-Defamation League (ADL) today called on the international community to unequivocally condemn Hamas’ flagrant and ruthless violation of a humanitarian ceasefire and to fully support all efforts to ensure the unconditional safe and immediate return of kidnapped Israel Defense Force officer Hadar Goldin.

Abraham H. Foxman, ADL National Director, issued the following statement:

Hamas has once again put on display for the entire world to see its morally bankrupt indifference to human life and the suffering it has brought to the people of Gaza by exploiting the quiet to conduct a suicide attack on Israelis and kidnap a 23-year-old Israeli soldier.

In violating this agreement, Hamas has continued on its path of terror, abduction and violence.  They have robbed the people of Gaza of an opportunity for humanitarian relief and a period of respite from the hostilities.  They have shown their utter disrespect for all those who worked to put the humanitarian ceasefire in place and deliberately provoked Israel to take immediate military steps to rescue the kidnapped soldier and ensure the safety of its troops and civilian population.

Yet again, Hamas’ resort to violence raises serious questions about the trustworthiness of any commitments the terror group makes to facilitate an end to the hostilities and demonstrates the need for disarming Hamas and meaningful international supervision in Gaza.

Israel has no choice but to respond to this blatant act of aggression.  Were any other country in the world in this position, they would act similarly.  The international community must unequivocally condemn Hamas’ action, demand the unconditional safe and immediate return of Hadar Goldin and fully support Israel in those efforts.
