American Law Enforcement Executives Study Counter-Terrorism In Israel

Washington, DC, March 27, 2012 … Fourteen law enforcement officials from across the United States traveled to Israel last week to learn how Israel's police, intelligence, and security forces prevent terror attacks. As participants in the Anti-Defamation League's (ADL) National Counter-Terrorism Seminar (NCTS), which took place from March 17-25, they met with counter-terrorism experts in an intensive program incorporating formal presentations and briefings with site visits around the country to areas that have borne witness to terror attacks. They learned how Israel, a democracy, has prevented and responded to suicide bombings and terrorist attacks and how the nation protects its airports, shopping malls, and public events.

"Israel has been the target of terror since the nation was founded," said David Friedman, Director of ADL's National Law Enforcement Initiatives. "NCTS enables Israel's counterterrorism experts to share their knowledge and lessons learned, to help American law enforcement better protect America, and prevent us from having to learn the same lessons the hard way."

The ADL delegation consisted of executives from the United States Park Police, Pennsylvania State Police, and major city police departments, including: Houston, Dallas, Las Vegas, San Diego, Atlanta, St. Paul, and Washington, DC.

More than 130 federal, state and local law enforcement executives have participated in NCTS since it was first launched in 2003.
