The 2016 Presidential election is over and we now have a new President-elect, Donald Trump. The election campaign was characterized by strong emotions, controversy and a great deal of negativity, bigotry and hate-filled rhetoric. In the aftermath of the election, there have been reported incidents of violence, harassment and intimidation targeting certain groups of people. In addition, daily protests in objection to Trump’s election have been taking place across the country.

This lesson provides an opportunity for students to reflect on their thoughts and feelings as well as those of their classmates, learn more about the campaign and election, consider the candidates’ final speeches and express their thoughts in a letter they write to the President-elect.
