Dear Mr. Foreign Minister:
We are writing to congratulate you on your successful visit to Israel. Argentina and Israel have always enjoyed a special bond and this latest visit reaffirmed this strong relationship.
As we approach the commemoration of the twentieth anniversary of the tragic terrorist attack against the AMIA-DAIA bombing, we also express our appreciation for Argentina’s continuous efforts to bring to justice the perpetrators of this heinous bombing. We understand your government believed the signing the Memorandum of Understanding with the Islamic Republic of Iran would further those efforts; however, this past year, Iran has again shown it cannot be trusted and does not intend to allow the accused perpetrators to submit to a fair judicial process in the Argentine courts.
Since Argentine Federal Court decided to declare unconstitutional the Memorandum of Understanding, we kindly urge your government to renew your commitment for justice and once again publicly affirm that your Government will spare no effort to prosecute all those involved in this attack, both inside and outside of Argentina.
The Anti-Defamation League remains steadfast in its commitment to preserving the memory of the victims and supports all efforts to bring the perpetrators - including the Iranian masterminds - to justice in hope that it will bring closure to those that suffered as a result of this terrorist attack. Until justice is served, we will continue to raise this issue at the highest levels in our meetings with international leaders.
We look forward to continuing to work closely with Argentina in its fight against terrorism and those that support it, and in its efforts to deepen Argentina’s relationship with the United States and the State of Israel.
