New York, NY, January 18, 2023 … ADL (the Anti-Defamation League) today announced the election of two new members to its board of directors: Dr. Sharon Nazarian of the Y&S Nazarian Family Foundation, and Jonathan Neman, co-founder and CEO of sweetgreen.
“We are fortunate to welcome these new members to ADL’s board, bringing with them a diverse range of experience across a number of segments of society, including philanthropy and innovation,” said Jonathan A. Greenblatt, ADL CEO. “Sharon and Jonathan each carry unique skillsets and track records of success in their respective industries and will provide invaluable leadership to our board.”
Each of the new officers was elected serve a three-year term on the board. Their terms began effective January 1, 2023.
“At a time of rising antisemitism and hate, we welcome these experienced new additions to our board as we embark upon our 110th year of fighting hate for good,” said Ben Sax, Chair of ADL’s Board of Directors. “Their insights will be critical as we continue to pursue our mission to fight antisemitism and secure justice and fair treatment to all.”
Dr. Nazarian is former ADL Senior Vice President of International Affairs. From 2017-2021 she headed ADL’s work fighting antisemitism and racial hatred globally and also oversaw ADL’s Israel office.
She is president of the Y&S Nazarian Family Foundation and the founder of the Younes & Soraya Nazarian Center for Israel Studies at University of California Los Angeles (UCLA) and Chair of its Advisory Board.
The Center is housed in the International Institute at UCLA in order to provide a systematic and academic study of Israel. She also teaches as an adjunct professor at the UCLA in the Department of Political Science.
Neman is Co-Founder & CEO of sweetgreen, the mission driven restaurant brand that serves healthy food at scale. Jonathan and his co-founders started sweetgreen in 2007, opening their first location in Georgetown, DC, just three months out of college. Today, sweetgreen is one of the fastest growing restaurant companies in the United States with over 140 locations.
