ADL Response to Unilever's Commitment to Serving Israeli Market

New York, NY, July 27, 2021 ... ADL (the Anti-Defamation League) has been engaged in deep dialogue with Unilever management since early last week regarding the decision by the independent board of Ben & Jerry's to stop selling its ice cream in the West Bank. (Ben & Jerry's is a Unilever subsidiary.) The Unilever CEO sent ADL CEO Jonathan Greenblatt a letter in which the company assured ADL it remains strongly committed to serving the Israeli business community and condemns antisemitism in all forms.

Greenblatt issued the following statement in response:

"We are heartened to read this unequivocal stance rejecting the BDS movement and any support for it by one of the world's largest multinational companies, and we are glad that Unilever is committing itself to investing in and serving the Israeli market now and for years to come. While ADL is a strong supporter of the two-state solution, we believe that it is wrong for any company to single out Israel by refusing to sell its products to Israelis and Palestinians living in the West Bank. We appreciate the unique business relationship between Unilever and its Ben and Jerry's subsidiary; however, we still urge Unilever to do whatever it can to convince the Ben and Jerry's board to change its position."
