New York, NY, January 28, 2023 … ADL (the Anti-Defamation League) today issued the following statement in response to the release of body camera footage depicting the brutal murder of Tyre Nichols at the hands of five Memphis police officers.
Statement from Jonathan A. Greenblatt, ADL CEO and National Director:
"ADL condemns the senseless murder of Tyre Nichols and shares our horror at the complete disregard for his life as seen in the footage released on Friday. We extend our sincerest condolences to Mr. Nichols’ family. May his memory always be a blessing.
"Mr. Nichols should still be alive today. We were encouraged to see the Memphis Police Department and the district attorney take swift action and demonstrate that the police officers involved will be held accountable for their actions. The announcement of charges and indictments are important first steps, but we hope just the start of action needed to bring about meaningful change in Memphis and beyond."
