ADL Statement on Twitter's Report That it Has Curbed Abuse on Platform

New York, NY, May 16, 2018 … The Anti-Defamation League released a statement today after Twitter shared the results of a new approach it has taken since March to reduce the amount of abuse on the platform.

The following is a statement from Brittan Heller, Director of ADL’s Center for Technology and Society:

“Twitter's new approach to disruptive and harassing tweets is a promising and important step in addressing hate online. It is especially so in terms of how it addresses questionable content beyond the scope of what violates the platform’s terms of service. The information they have provided the public on the effectiveness of these methods in mitigating abuse on Twitter is also valuable transparency. We look forward to continued and sustained efforts by Twitter to provide greater transparency on efforts like these to make their platform more respectful and inclusive of all people.”

ADL last week released the first-ever report detailing the extent of anti-Semitism on Twitter, finding at least 4.2 million anti-Semitic tweets in the 12-month period ending January 28, 2018.
