New York, NY, April 19, 2016 … The Anti-Defamation League (ADL) today condemned the bombing of a Jerusalem city bus which injured over 20 people, two of them seriously.
“We deplore the horrific attack in Jerusalem, the first bus bombing in a long period of time, and an act of terror that brings back nightmares for many in Israel,” said Jonathan A. Greenblatt, ADL CEO, and Carole Nuriel, Acting Director of ADL’s Israel Office. “Violence directed at civilians is never justifiable, and we hope this outrageous attack will be appropriately condemned by the international community.”
Mr. Greenblatt and Ms. Nuriel added, “We also expect world leaders to make their voices heard by loudly and swiftly denouncing this act of terror.”
A police investigation determined an explosive was set off on the back of the bus, causing it to go up in flames and burned a nearby unoccupied bus and a private vehicle. The terror groups Hamas and Palestinian Islamic Jihad praised the bombing, but did not take responsibility. In praising the attack, Hamas said it was “a natural response to Israel’s desecration of the Al-Aqsa Mosque.”
ADL extended its prayers for the full and speedy recovery of those injured.
