Frequently Asked Questions

ADL AI Chat, ADL Ora, for Educators is an AI-powered chat assistant designed to help K–12 educators quickly find lesson plans, teaching strategies, and classroom resources from ADL Education and Echoes & Reflections on topics including Jewish identity, antisemitism, and the Holocaust. Currently in Beta, ADL Ora, derived from the Hebrew word “Ohr” meaning light, is designed to help light the way for educators as they navigate teaching about Jewish identity, antisemitism and the Holocaust.

ADL Ora is designed for educators as a trusted-source—it is a closed knowledge base drawing on ADL resources and external resources linked off those resources. Unlike open AI models that can spread disinformation, ADL Ora only draws on  expert-vetted content. It is also purpose-built—designed from the ground up for teaching about antisemitism, the Holocaust and Jewish identity. It understands the unique challenge of these topics and knows how to answer questions from educators. Because of this clear purpose, it can generate responses that are personalized. It can cater responses based on grade-level, available time and specific learning goals—it can also translate to Hebrew, German, and Spanish. Finally, ADL Ora is connected. Part of a full ecosystem of resources, including our staff who are monitoring and training ADL Ora to be better, ADL Ora is part of a broader system of expertise.

That being said ADL Ora is still an AI Chat, so it is always advisable to review the materials carefully before you start using them!

This tool is designed for educators working in K–12 settings. Students and individuals under 18 should not use this tool.

ADL Ora is designed to support educators with a variety of needs when teaching lessons around Jewish identity, antisemitism and the Holocaust. You can ask for:

  • Lesson plans or ideas by grade level, topic, or time available
  • Resource suggestions that are age-appropriate
  • Background information to help you prepare
  • Strategies for guiding conversations and responding to difficult questions
  • And more!

ADL Ora is designed to support educators with planning and teaching, so it can help you craft student assignments and assessments. However, it is not designed to grade individual student work. This is a tool for educators and not a replacement for a strong classroom instructor.

Great question! Verifying the information is an important part of being a thoughtful educator. All of the information provided by ADL Ora is taken from ADL and Echoes & Reflections resources which undergo rigorous evaluation to ensure validity, completeness, and credibility. If you have a concern about the responses you receive, please reach out to [email protected].

If you have issues with the AI chat assistant, please reach out to us at [email protected].

There is no cost associated with using ADL Ora and we hope educators will use the tool regularly.

ADL is able to view conversations for the purpose of improving ADL Ora and in the development of new and/or relevant content.
