On June 29, the United Nations Committee on the Exercise of the Inalienable Rights of the Palestinian People (CEIRPP) will host a two-day forum “to mark fifty years of occupation” at UN headquarters in NY. The first day’s program is titled: "Ending the Occupation: The Path to Independence, Justice, and Peace for Palestine", and the second day: "Ending the Occupation: Creating the Space for Human Rights, Development, and a Just Peace."

CEIRPP, was established by a General Assembly resolution in 1975 to focus solely on advancing the Palestinian cause and enable the Palestinian people to exercise their rights as defined by General Assembly resolutions. It is the only UN committee devoted to a specific people. Traditionally, the CEIRPP programs and reports propagate anti-Israel rhetoric. The CEIRPP “occupation” event is an annual occurrence, though this year’s is more high-profile due to the 50th anniversary of the 1967 Six Day War.

The forum will feature a number of panels with American, Israeli, Palestinian and other international participants. The topics, which offer no background to the outbreak of the Six Day War, include: The Costs and Consequences of 50 Years of Occupation, Beyond Occupation: The Path ahead to Palestinian Independence and a Just Peace and The Gaza Strip: An integral part of the State of Palestine.

The speakers include a group of diverse Israeli, Palestinian and America voices, including Saeb Erakat, PLO Secretary General, Shlomo Ben-Ami, Former Israeli Foreign Minister, Aida Touma-Saliman, Israeli Knesset Member from the Joint Arab List, Hagai El-Ad, Executive Director of the Israeli NGO B’Tselem and Michele Dunne, Director of the Middle East Program at the Carnegie Endowment for International Peace.

But notably, the program also includes representatives from harsh anti-Israel organizations, including Rebecca Vilkomerson, Executive Director of Jewish Voices for Peace, and Wesam Ahmad of the Al Haq organization, whose General Director, Shawan Jabarin, is accused by Israel of belonging to the Popular Front for the Liberation of Palestine terror group.
