There is a UC Davis Chancellor’s Advisory Council on Jewish Student Life. The Council has worked on a broad range of initiatives, from ensuring kosher food options are provided to coordinating a Solidarity Shabbat at Hillel during Principles of Community Week. The Council also reviews University policies and procedures on bias incidents, discrimination, academic freedom, and free speech. The University also has a Jewish Student Leaders Council, which meets monthly with the Vice Chancellor for Student Affairs to provide student input and coordinate action as needed. Furthermore, UC Davis was a member of the fifth cohort of the Hillel International Campus Climate Initiative’s Campus Cohort Program, and in February 2024 formed the UC Davis Campus Climate Initiative (CCI) team that serves as the primary working group to address issues related to Jewish life on campus.
In August 2024, University of California President Drake launched a UC-wide Campus Climate Initiative to help all UC locations develop campus climate action plans for fall 2024 and beyond. President Drake also issued a directive to all UC campuses to make clear to their campus communities that certain activities – including encampments, masking to conceal identities, and restricting free movement – are prohibited. In response to this directive, UC Davis published a new Freedom of Expression policy, updated the Use and Reservation of University Properties/Event Arrangements policy and launched a Free Speech website.
The UC Davis Chancellor’s Advisory Council on Jewish Student Life has been working to collect feedback, questions and complaints from Jewish students, which have been shared with administrators during regular quarterly meetings.
The UC Davis Police Department also regularly engages with the campus Jewish community and works closely with Hillel of Davis and Sacramento to provide enhanced presence during regularly scheduled weekly events.
In addition, UC Davis’ trainings include Discourse and Free Expression: Understanding Your Rights and Responsibilities at the University of California, which is mandatory for all students. The SHAPE (Sexual Harassment, Anti-Discrimination, Prevention and Education) training is also a mandatory, annual online training for all students and employees that educates the campus community on UC's policies regarding all forms of prohibited discrimination, including antisemitism.
UC Davis has also launched a digital resource hub featuring courses and events developed by faculty designed to foster respectful dialogue on campus, specifically addressing topics related to antisemitism. UC Davis is also playing a key role in the City of Davis/Yolo County Hate-Free Together initiative, with its community members engaged in planning and participating in the summit on countering antisemitism and promoting inclusivity. In addition, at UC Davis, a ‘Jewish Culture, Heritage, and Identity Faculty and Staff Association (JCHAIFSA)’ was formed in August 2025 to advance Jewish culture, heritage, and identity and provide opportunities for community engagement and education to combat antisemitism.
