Article
ADL Headlines newsletter
December 04, 2020 THE WEEK’S BIG 3 Police in New Jersey are investigating an apparent hate crime after the carcass of a dead pig was left on the doorstep of a rabbi’s home in the town of Lakewood. Two online retailers briefly listed shirts for sale with the words “I survived the Holocough” emblazoned on them, referencing a white supremacist meme. A suspected member of the right-wing sovereign citizen movement was arrested at a Boston bus station carrying a gun and…

Let’s Avoid Holocaust Analogies in the Public Square

Article
Holocaust Museum
November 18, 2020 By: Shaya Lerner The Holocaust will be forever remembered as one of the most horrific events of the 20th century. The murder of six million Jews and millions of others carried out by the Nazis and their collaborators was the largest recorded genocide in modern history. There is simply no equivalent event, historical or current, that compares with it.  Despite this, over the past few months, both prior to and after the Presidential election, there have been an…

33/6

Hate Symbol
33/6
The number 33 is used by Ku Klux Klan adherents to signify the Ku Klux Klan. Since the 11th letter of the alphabet is K, three Ks signify "KKK" or the Ku Klux Klan. When using this reference, Klan members will frequently add the number 6 at the end, as in 33/6, because they think the Klan is currently in its sixth historical "era." Less commonly, some holdouts may still use the numeric code 33/5. Additional Images:

Remembering the Lessons of Kristallnacht

News
by: Kenneth Jacobson | November 09, 2020 The Times of Israel As we commemorate Kristallnacht, the night of the broken glass, in Germany in 1938, it is instructive to ask what that terrible night all those years ago says to us in 2020. At the top of the list is the understanding that the Holocaust did not suddenly happen. It was the product of centuries of antisemitism inculcated in publics in Europe, heightened dramatically by the Nazi takeover of Germany and the…

Burning Cross

Hate Symbol
Burning Cross
The image of the burning cross is one of the most potent hate symbols in the United States, popularized as a terror image by the Ku Klux Klan since the early 1900s. Cross-burnings (called "cross-lightings" by Ku Klux Klan groups, to make it seem as if they are not destroying a Christian cross) have long been used as a traditional symbol by Klan groups, used both in Klan rituals as well as in attempts to intimidate and terrorize victims of Klan groups. So widely associated with racial…
