ADL Calls for Action to Protect Jewish Students Ahead of House Hearing on Campus Antisemitism

New York, NY, May 6, 2025 … ADL (the Anti-Defamation League) issued the following statement in advance of tomorrow's Congressional hearing on campus antisemitism by the House Committee on Education and the Workforce, "Beyond the Ivy League: Stopping the Spread of Antisemitism on America's Campuses."

Antisemitism on college campuses is a serious crisis. Over the past year, we’ve seen hate-fueled rhetoric and protests that have crossed the line into harassment, intimidation, and even violence. Jewish students deserve the same protections and sense of safety as all students — and too often, that standard is not being met.

We welcome this hearing and thank Chairman Walberg and the House Committee on Education and the Workforce for continuing to shine a spotlight on campus antisemitism. Congressional oversight and bipartisan action are critical to ensuring that schools uphold their legal and moral responsibilities under Title VI of the Civil Rights Act.

At ADL, we’ve worked directly with university leaders to push for real solutions: antisemitism education, stronger bias response protocols, and consistent enforcement of campus policies. Our Campus Antisemitism Report Card evaluates how colleges and universities — including Cal Poly, Haverford, and DePaul — are responding to this crisis. All three schools earned a D or F. That is unacceptable.

Since the report card’s release, we’ve seen some signs of progress, including new policies and commitments from several institutions — including some of those testifying tomorrow. We are proud to have helped drive meaningful change through direct engagement, public accountability, and transparency.

But as tomorrow’s hearing will make clear, the work is far from done. Jewish students are still being targeted, and many institutions are still failing to meet the moment. We hope to hear a real commitment from Cal Poly, Haverford, and DePaul to ensure their policies and procedures protect Jewish students and don’t trample on their or others' civil rights.

We’ll be watching this hearing closely — and we’ll continue working with Congress, campus leaders, and students until every college is a place where Jewish students are safe, respected, included, and free to learn without fear.

The hearing will begin on May 7th at 10:15 AM ET and can be viewed on YouTube.
