New York, NY, September 24, 2026 ... ADL (the Anti-Defamation League) today welcomed the resolution by the U.S. Department of Education’s National Advisory Committee on Institutional Quality and Integrity (NACIQI) recommending that the Department of Education suspend the American Psychological Association's Commission on Accreditation as a nationally recognized accrediting agency for 12 months, on grounds that include the agency’s failure to address a pervasive culture of antisemitism.
“For more than a year, we and other Jewish organizations told the American Psychological Association’s leadership exactly what needed to change, and they failed to act,” said Jonathan Greenblatt, ADL CEO and National Director. “A federal advisory committee has now confirmed what Jewish psychologists have been saying all along: antisemitism within this organization is pervasive. An accreditor cannot credibly set standards for an entire profession while failing to uphold them within its own walls. This suspension should be a turning point, not another headline the APA waits out.”
ADL has spent more than a year pressing the APA to confront this crisis. In ourAcademic Association Integrity Index, ADL specifically named the APA among professional associations that claim to embody values of diversity and inclusion, yet engage in actions that alienate their Jewish members.
ADL also documented a hostile climate for Jewish and Israeli psychologists within the APA, including harassment in APA-sponsored spaces, repeated calls promoting the boycott, divestment and sanctions movement, and conference speakers who justified violence against Jews and Israelis. Most recently, ADL urged APA to recognize the Association of Jewish Psychologists as an ethnic psychological association, which they failed to do.
